The PostScript® format - or better language - stores the graphic information as vectors, organized sets of page co-ordinates and graphic attributes (colour, stroke, etc). A line is a line, a polygon is a polygon and so forth. The PostScript compatible format used at planiglobe is not an embedded GIF or JPEG in a PostScript file but keeps the map information (border lines, country polygons, ...) as vectors. The benefits for you are: this is a far better printable map. It looks equally nice and brilliant at any output size. Whereas raster images cannot be scaled without loss in resolution or sharpness you may scale a PostScript® image and retain information and presentation quality. This format is what the people at the print shop or prepress professionals want. If you like you can import this file into a graphics editing program capable of working with vector graphics and further enhance the look of the map. You can also place the PostScript® maps in a word processor or desktop publishing program and enjoy a clear and legible images at any output size and resolution. You also may select labels and names, change their font family, colour or size to meet you specific requirements. Or select the country polygons and change their fill colour. Want a different shade of blue for rivers or lakes? All this can be achieved with vector graphics such as the PostScript® compatible version of your map.
